Select the place free from shade. Partial shade provided by 50% green shadenet is ideal. Shade net facilitates proper & uniform growth. It also prevents the entry of free insect pests and disease into the nursery. It is important to secure the seedlings during rainy days It can be done by covering them with transparent polysheet of 200 gauge thickness. 8 gauge GI wires can be used as frames over which the ploythene sheets can be placed.

Form the raised bed of size breadth -1m, height - 15-30cm and convenient lengt. Adaptation of raise nursery bed (10-15 cm) for good drainage thereby avoid damping off in nursery.

4 Preparation 1 (+/- -1) 1.0 Seed selection:
Select seeds free from Insects pests and diseases. Examine the seeds for presense of pests. Presense of beetles indicate seeds are of poor quality. Do not use such seeds. Also look for presence of white or green mould groth on the seeds. This indicates seeds are stored in a moist condition, which will affect their germination even if infected seeds are removed.

5 Preparation 1 (+/- 0) 2.0 Seed treatment:
Normally the seeds are treated when you purchase from reputed agro centre/seed companies. If not treated treat the seeds by the following creteria. Selected seeds have to mix with Tricoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens, again with Azospirillum. Trichoderma,Pseudomonas and Azospirillum are available in both solid & liquid form. If you think powder form will not stick to seeds use starch/10% maida as adhesive and dried in shade for 20 minutes. If you go for liquid formulations no need to use ahesive. Soak the seeds in liquid formulations in a container and wait till the seeds become uniformly wet.

6 Sowing 1 (+/- 0) 3.0 Seed sowing:
Line sowing is done by make a line at a depth of 2-3 cm on the bed. Sow the seeds on the line at 10cm apart and slightly pressed with soil without over pressing. The seeds are also broadcasted in the nursery beds. In broadcasting the seeds should not touch each other.

Mulching the beds with paddy straw which helps better and uniform germination. You can use the available mulches which shold be free from diseases,insects,weeds/weed seeds.

9 Crop growing 3 (+/- 2) 1.0 Germination check:
Check the germination percantage by removing the paddy straw carefully without damaging the germinated seedlings. If the germination is 70% no need to worry about it. If it is less than 70%, check for seedlings requirement and present availability. In case of less availability prepare the protrays for further nursery raising. If the germination is there remove the paddy straw which facilitates further growth.

In the nursery stage check the damping off diseases. Two types of damping off one is pre germination and another one is post germination.
